Clinical criminology is a unique profession in criminology, as it belongs to the health professions. Clinical criminology focuses primarily on the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and counseling for diverse forensic populations. Unique areas of expertise consist of the use of specific clinical and actuarial tools in evaluating the risk for future violence of sex offenders and forensic patients. The profession is based on a multi-disciplinary understanding in the areas of psychiatry, psychology, law, and social sciences.  Clinical criminologists work in various settings such as mental health centers and outpatient clinics, mental health departments in prisons, rehabilitation centers, private clinics and more.
